ROLE OF THE COMMITTEE
The Australian Junior Gliding Club Committee is the official team behind all junior Gliding development and promotional activities in Australia.
The committee is a voluntary group of seven members who take care of the affairs of the Club. Each individual is nominated and elected by the AJGC’s members at the Annual General Meeting, usually held at JoeyGlide.
The executive works behind the scenes all year round on various different projects. The executive’s main roles are to manage the club’s fleet and finances, help it’s members to achieve their soaring goals by providing contacts and networking opportunities, organising events, providing financial support, and working to promote and develop junior soaring in any other form.
The AJGC is here to voice your needs and opinions as an junior pilot in the Australian Gliding community.
Of the seven members, four make up the Executive and three are Ordinary members. The Executive consists of the President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. The President is the face of the organisation, main point of contact and oversees all projects, delegating accordingly. The Vice President is the second point of contact and main advisor. The Treasurer takes care of funding, accounts and financial affairs. The Secretary looks after all the records and administration of the Club. The role of the Ordinary Members is to provide council and ensure that the committee is not biased by providing views of the members at large.
PRESIDENT – JAMES NUGENT (VIC)
James first attended JoeyGlide in 2010 at Waikerie, wearing a nappie. Since 2012, where he participated in the coaching program at Lake Keepit, he has made the annual trip each year around the eastern states of Australia enjoying the flying and laughs. James broke on to the senior gliding circuit in 2014, and promptly returned solely to the juniors for a period following his decimation at a senior Nationals. Since then, James has been an Australian Gliding Team Member, representing Australia in the 2015 JWGC at Narromine, and has basically been following the junior (and senior) soaring scene ever since.
You'll often only see James' name 1000 points clear of you on SoaringSpot at all times.
VICE PRESIDENT– CHRIS JESSE (QLD)
Chris first attended JoeyGlide as a coachee in 2014 and has returned to compete poorly every year since. Chris' excellent character often sees him fall victim to a multitude of nominations, including the junior National Competitions Committee (NCC) representative. Chris enjoys the finer things in life, including traveling over country Australia in gliders at very low altitudes. You'll often see Chris on your FLARM, following you lower and slower.
TREASURER– MITCHELL TURNER (NT)
Mitch attended his first JoeyGlide in 2014 at Narromine as a coachee, and has competed in every JoeyGlide since. He entered on to the AJGC Executive in 2016, and while his role has changed, he has contributed each year. In addition, Mitch is also the AJGC GFA board representative, a role which he does voluntarily(?!). You'll often see him having a laugh with whoever he can on the grid, but most likely in a field 15km down task.
SECRETARY– MICHAEL KELLER (WA)
Michael made the trip from his hometown of Northcliffe (WA) across continental Australia to attend his first JoeyGlide in January 2018 at Narromine, NSW. Michael is a current Australian Gliding Team member, gearing up to represent Australia at Szeged, Hungary, in July this year. He is also the JoeyGlide in-house competition scorer, so if you want your trace scored any time before midnight, it's generally a good idea to leave a nice tie-down spot for the fastest Cirrus in the west.
ORDINARY MEMBER – REUBEN LANE (NSW)
Reuben attended his first JoeyGlide in 2014 as a competitor and has returned to compete each year since. He was nominated for ordinary member in January of 2018. Reuben is an Australian Gliding Team member, having represented Australia at the 2017 JWGC at Pociūnai, Lithuania and soon in Hungary for JWGC 2019. You'll often see Reuben flying his beautiful LS1f very well, wishing he bought an LS3. You'll also find him with his shirt off and a beer in hand - two when he isn't flying.
NEW SOUTH WALES & ACT- CAMERON BARTLETT
VICTORIA & TASMANIA - JASON TANG
Jason is an extremely popular regular at AJGC events, entering on to the scene in 2018 when he attended JoeyGlide at Narromine. Jason is a genuine skypig, holding a rating in most air sports disciplines, such as paragliding and sky diving. You'll see Jason sharing his journey with the English language with others.
In September this year, Jason plans to run a junior open day at Bacchus Marsh airfield to introduce Bachelor of Aviation students from nearby Swinburne and RMIT University flying schools to the superior form of flying - gliding.
SOUTH AUSTRALIA & NORTHERN TERRITORY- BELEN SWATT
QUEENSLAND - NATAN'EL SCHUSTER
WESTERN AUSTRALIA - MICHAEL KELLER
Mikey back at it again, running the junior-specific local series events in Western Australia.
